"There is a sense of mistrust and suspicion between Buddhists and Muslims in the area. They have to help one another to build up trust by working together,"Thailand ’s Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said . Up to 10 percent of Thailand 's 65 million people are Muslims. They have long complained they are treated as second-class citizens in predominantly Buddhist Thailand.
