The Web has it's own code of language, or "text-speak," (text messaging and Internet chat language) - such as "btw" instead of "by the way," and "4" instead of "for." But has this new speak changed the English language?

What many language purists fear is that text-speak "txtspk" is ruining the English language and sipping into our school system.
Students in New Zealand can now use text-speak on national exams, according to a ruling by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
Are we dumbing down language? I think it's adaptation. Not only to the new gadgets, but to the now.
It's better to embrace this text-speak language. Not only so you're not left out of the loop, but also because you're learning new ways of communicating. It's important to cultivate proper grammar, but it's also important to be able to understand each other.

as long as they can still read and write - I don't have a problem with it.
Text messaging is a whole new language; maybe in the future it’s something you may need on the skills section of your CV to be marketable. I think that anything new that can be added to you knowledge is positive. The important thing is not to lose one language for using the other. I am glad I did not have to use text messaging on my exams, I would have definitely flunked.
In regard to the assassinated newspaper editor – I think loss of a life is bad, especially when it is due to a violent crime. Hopefully they catch the suspect, follow due process and imprison him or her. I would really frighten me if this turns out to be an assassination linked to trying to eliminate freedom of expression and the press.
On another note – I don’t know a lot about breastfeeding and I think women have the right to choose. I do think this is an interesting policy if its intent is to promote the healthier choice, but if its intent is to force women into it, I think it’s wrong.
I came, I read, I commented.
hearing grade school kids walk by me repeating QUERTY over and over because it makes them laugh says yes the net is shaping the language...Hi Aldo! rock on..
